Dealing with Unhappy Employees

Do you have an employee who is holding you back? He (or she) may be disgruntled with his job duties, with the company, or with other employees. The employee regularly goes out of his way to find something to complain about. He stirs up discontent in his coworkers just for his own enjoyment. He resists any changes you propose. He frequently makes you angry and frustrated. Now is the time to confront the challenge of making him a valued employee rather than a source of constant discontent.

This Nugget's link will give you tips on how to deal with unhappy employees. It also suggests sound management techniques that will help make your entire workplace more positive. Use these ideas to confront the negativity head-on. Your other employees will appreciate it and you will see a positive affect on productivity.

Click on "The Ideal Workplace" for a short lesson on transforming your workplace.

  Inspirational Words of the Day
"Don't tell people how to do things. Tell them what to do and let them surprise you with their results. ”
- George S. Patton

Nugget 33, published last month, encouraged you to resolve to delegate more this year. Hopefully you have embraced that suggestion and are making a concerted effort to enhance the value of your employees and reduce your own burden. Give them the opportunity to surprise you. It's great for their morale and it demonstrates just how effective you can be as a manager and a leader.

Checkmate Tip: More help than you know what to do with

One of the greatest enhancements in Checkmate® in recent years has been the expansion of "Help" menus and prompts that can be easily accessed by users. These functions not only make training new personnel easier, they are also invaluable when an experienced user just can't remember how to do something.

We regularly find that users do not leverage the power of the "Help" menus. Valuable time can be saved and stress avoided by looking at the help within Checkmate first. Here is one example of what's already in your system. Take a minute to look them over. Chances are you will find a function you've forgotten or never knew existed.

After you've looked up a part and have your listing of parts on your screen, you will see these or similar options at the bottom of your screen:

The following screen is accessed by entering a question mark (?) at the prompt. We've highlighted several choices that are lesser known functions.
